Taichung, Hometown Series 4: Performing in Taichung Jazz Festival !!

Whether the day brings you rain or shine, always put on your best performance...

I am so honored to have been invited to perform at the Taichung Jazz Festival 2017 (台中爵士音樂節) alongside three amazing musicians: Jordan Peters on Guitar, Kevin Warren on drums, and Nicolas Bedard on Bass  from Montreal, Canada. Despite the long, arduous flight they endured to participate in this spectacular event, they managed to deliver an incredible performance.

Together, we played Canadian Contemporary from Jazz Composer Jash Rager, Min Rager’s tunes, a few of my songs, my arrangement of Mandarin Pop songs, and Chick Corea’s tunes. Our collaborative goal was to present a different style of Jazz to introduce that unique beauty to our audience.

Any outdoor festival is always fun, but can be a bit tricky from time to time. This time, it was raining really hard and despite how uncomfortable the audience must have felt, there was surprisingly a large crowd before us. What started off as an annoyance, slowly evolved into a beautiful, romantic sound that made for great background noise for our performance.

Not was I graced with my fans’ presence, I also had the pleasure to perform for a few of my family members, including grandmother, mother, aunts, uncle,  aunt in law and cousins. Even my students, my local friends and long distant friends, supported me at my show. I am so grateful to have everyone’s love and support!

So much thanks for 台中市政府文化局 for doing such a meaningful event each and every year. Also, many thanks to 力饌堂 for organizing this huge event so professionally. Everything went efficiently and smoothly.

The Taichung Jazz Festival 2017 was nothing I had expected it to be, but as the first time performing in the rain amongst a large crowd of familiar and unfamiliar faces, I will remember this event forever! I would love to see you all next year!

Stay tuned! Keep following my blog. The Video of this show will be online SOON!

Performing on the Main Stage: Jazz Talk from Montreal, feat. Amanda Wu

I am thrilled to be invited to play at the Taichung Jazz Festival this Friday, October 13th, with my fellow Canadian musician friends, Jazz Talk from Montreal! The Taichung Jazz Festival has been a prominent festival in my hometown for the past eight years. Not only has being in my hometown been a great experience for me at this point in my career, the ability to bring all that I have learned from my previous education in Canada to my hometown is rewarding! It feels like I am able to convey my musical growth from the western country back to where it all began, my home.
