Taichung, Home Town Series 1: Yide Mansion 一德洋樓

Sometimes the greatest experiences are the ones you are most familiar with...

I have traveled far and wide and added many great stories to my life, and now I found myself where it all began, my hometown of Taichung, Taiwan. When I meet people for the first time, they assume I am either North American or European. It’s what my spirit portrays. However, it was actually Taiwan that was the foundation of where the free spirited in me developed. Taichung City is the third biggest city in Taiwan, and although not big enough to tie me down forever, big enough to embrace me for my return.

When I was 18 years old, I moved away to Taipei, then Montreal 2 years later. But Taichung City always remained in my heart, reminding me of the beautiful memories I cherished as a young girl. Finally returning after years working in other countries felt comforting.

I’ve done photoshoots amongst ancient historical sites and magnificent cities, but nothing compared to the experience of posing at the Yide Mansion. What was suppose to be a typical photoshoot turned into an unforgettable experience. Inside was a traditional Taiwanese wedding setting in the living room and I got to role play as a bride. Although it looked a bit funny without a groom by my side, I was ecstatic to even experience such a random, fun setting.

Walking into this extravagant historical building with it’s history still left in place made me feel as though I walked back into time. After falling into westerner’s time tunnel so many times, it is definitely more fun to fall into the time tunnel of my own culture!

Song: 一代女皇 (Gen: Hyper LInk this )

Singer: 金佩姍

The song of this classic drama is why I started my music journey! Before I learned any music, I was able to sing with perfect pitch and play the melody on the piano.

It is a SIGNIFICANT song and drama for my life as well as my hometown.
